Kingsmead ‘Careering Around’

YEAR 8 students at Kingsmead School, Wiveliscombe, have spent a day learning about a number of different careers. Representatives from engineering, construction, environment, law, charities, armed forces, recruitment, electrical and plumbing were included and each gave a presentation about their industries and career prospects within it.

The students found it particularly interesting to learn about different careers and the qualifications they would need to achieve to follow each. Head of Applied Learning, Charlie Pierce said: ‘The talks come at a crucial time as Year 8s will be considering their GCSE options this year and we appreciate the time and effort from everyone who came today to support our Careers Programme.”

Chris Kimmins, from One Step Recruitment, a recruitment consultancy in Taunton, commented: ”I have had a fantastic day and it has been very refreshing to present to this younger audience and see their interest. It is important to me to give back to the community and I think it is very good for business people to see what teachers cope with every day.”
