2016 was a superb year for One Step; let’s look back on a few of our favourite highlights

Awards

2016 was a strong year for our awards cabinet.  It was with enormous pleasure and pride we received the Somerset Business Award in the ‘skills for growth’ category, which is a testimony to our relationship with and contribution to local schools and colleges.  In addition to our annual Somerset Skills & Careers Fair to inspire the workforce of tomorrow, we also work with local schools on their careers events and volunteer for the Young Enterprise programme.

In February we received the Best Corporate Support award from The Wedding Wishing Well Foundation, a charity that arranges and funds weddings for the terminally ill.  One Step Recruitment recruited and continues to fully fund a member of staff for this worthy Foundation.

Our team

The One Step family’s professional development has been evident throughout 2016, with our commercial manager James passing his Level 3 REC exam (he now gets letters after his name!) and Emma is now our in-house junior graphic designer

The first One Step baby was announced in this year, congratulations to our Chard administrator Samantha.

Following our ethos of giving back to the community, we helped the homeless with contributions of food and clothing as well as sleeping under the starts for a night, we took part in Jeans for Genes day,   as well as the mammoth month long ‘Outrun May’ challenge, which nearly finished off our accountant Ben (!), worth it though.

In May 2016 we welcomed our very first apprentice Abbie whose contribution to our business has been so impressive that she has been nominated for the Somerset Apprenticeship Awards.

In addition to our apprenticeship, we created two brand new positions in the business in 2016.  Stephen is now our dedicated Business Development Manager and our Events Manager Tansy came on board to lead our annual Somerset Skills & Careers Fair (breaking our record for the number of attendees and exhibitors, ensuring we hold on to our accolade of running the biggest and most interactive careers fair in Somerset). Tansy became our Marketing Manager in early 2017.

In the words of Richard Branson “if you take care of your staff they will take care of your clients,” well thanks to our MD and local financial experts Cooper Associates all staff serving or starting in 2016 now receive life insurance cover.

Our business growth

We registered over 2000 candidates to our database across Somerset.

Our office in Yeovil celebrated their one year anniversary and really established our presence and voice in the town.

We are proud to be an independent recruitment agency, the benefits being we have local knowledge for our clients and our expert team of consultants have the flexibility to tailor make their services which lead to our new tag line “stay local”.

What for 2017?

We don’t plan to slow down for 2017 either. Our first quarter will include 2 more apprentices to join us and a brand spanking new website, not to mention some serious  planning for our fifth annual Somerset Skills and Careers Fair. This year already looks very promising indeed.
